Literature Text

When Andrew gave an assignment to write about how their mutations make medical treatment different for them Katrin consciously felt the scar on her face. Thank god she was out for that, it would've hurt worse than hell. Reaching into her desk she took out a notebook and picked up her pencil, carefully holding it in her hands. Her claws made this a bit of a challenge, but not too bad. With a deep breath in and out to calm her nerves Katrin began her essay.

My visible mutation is limited to just my claws, but internally is another story. My mutation is a tiny bit of water bear, they've survived all five mass extinctions. My percentage is just enough to grant me their resilience.

Wounds that would be fatal for a normal human or even another mutant aren't for me, I regenerate. The bitter irony is that to do so I must enter a death-like coma, so much so my heart stops and it happens whether I like it or not. While I'm in this state my injuries patch themselves up, even my bones reconnect.

There are downsides. If I'm in a dangerous situation when I black out I'll be totally defenseless, and my bones won't heal right unless they're set. When I wake up and they're like this they have to be rebroken and set so they heal correctly.

Katrin could go to explain this more but holding her pencil with her claws getting in the way was becoming annoying and a bit uncomfortable. Standing up she walked to the front of the class to give Andrew he'd homework, a small smile crossing her face from the details she'd given.
